Penticton RCMP says missing elderly resident Doreen Abbott has been found dead.
Abbott, 89, failed to arrive at a friend’s house as expected on Jan. 27
Her car, a 1993 Subaru Legacy, was located on Greyback Mountain Road, stuck in the snow. Abbott was not in the car, nor was she found nearby.
Penticton Search and Rescue took part in an active search throughout the week but were unable to locate Abbott.
On Sunday evening police announced Abbott, who had early-stage dementia, was found dead.
“It is with a heavy heart that Penticton RCMP wishes share the news that Doreen Abbott has been located and unfortunately has passed away. Although the police investigation is continuing there is nothing at this time to suggest Doreen was the victim of a crime,” Sgt. Bob Vatamaniuk said.
“The family wishes to thank all those that participated in her search and has asked for privacy as they grieve their loss,” he added.
