🚨 Quebec Woman Charged in 25-Year-Old Cold Case of Louis Valentine
The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) has announced a breakthrough in a decades-old investigation, arresting a 63-year-old woman from Trois-Rivières in connection with the 2000 disappearance and death of Louis Valentine, a Laval man who had previously won the lottery.
Valentine was last seen alive in August 2000. A year earlier, police say, he had come into “a large sum of money” through a lottery win before relocating to Trois-Rivières, where he became acquainted with the suspect. His family later reported him missing in February 2001.
On Thursday evening, investigators with the SQ’s cold-case squad arrested the woman. The following day, police confirmed she is facing charges of murder and committing an indignity to a corpse. Officers and forensic specialists, including a forensic anthropologist, executed search warrants at an address on Corbeil Street in Trois-Rivières as part of the operation.
While police have not released full details, media reports indicate the woman is alleged to have murdered Valentine, dismembered his body, frozen the remains, and eventually buried them.
The SQ emphasized that the possibility of foul play was never ruled out in Valentine’s disappearance and noted that the investigation remained active for nearly 25 years before the arrest.
Anyone with information that could help further this case—or any other cold case—is urged to contact the SQ criminal information line at 1-800-659-4264 or consult their official cold-case webpage.
