Almost four decades after he went missing in Prince Albert, police have announced new leads in what happened to Samuel LaChance.

Days ago, PAPS reminded the public of the fact that the disappearance of LaChance – who would now be 88 if he was alive – was an unsolved mystery.

It seems as if he may not have been in Prince Albert at all.

“New investigative leads have emerged, prompting a fresh inquiry into the missing person investigation. The investigation has revealed previously undiscovered information, leading search teams to an area on the Big River First Nation where efforts will be focused,” said PAPS in a news release.

Officers will work with the RCMP’s specialized units, including the historical case unit and the Alberta division’s police dog service.

PAPS said while they can’t release much more information, they remain committed to helping LaChance’s family get closure.

Previously, the last confirmed sighting of LaChance was at a Prince Albert residence in the West Hill on July 29, 1987.

Anyone who may have information concerning Samuel LaChance’s disappearance or activities on July 29, 1987 is urged to call the Prince Albert Police Service at 306-953-4222 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or can submit a confidential tip online here.

Any media inquiries can be directed to the Prince Albert Police Service Communications at communications@papolice.ca
