Cape Breton Regional Police are investigating after a person reported finding suspected human remains in a rural area about 20 kilometres south of Sydney.
According to a news release, police were called to the Morley Road area at around 5 p.m. local time Monday.
A forensic identification unit was at the scene Monday evening and is working with the medical examiner’s office to identify the remains, the release said.
Investigators remained at the scene Tuesday morning, where officers said they expected to remain for a few days. There was also a drone flying overhead.
Access to Morley Road is restricted and police are asking the public to avoid the area while they investigate.
