The Montreal police continued its investigation Friday into the disappearance of 10-year-old Ariel Jeffrey Kouakou, while maintaining a presence in the neighbourhood where he was last seen.

The boy disappeared on March 12 after leaving his home late that morning to visit a friend whose family lives three blocks away. Earlier this week, the Montreal police said they are convinced the boy headed to a nearby park after realizing his friend wasn’t home and that Ariel drowned in the Rivière des Prairies after getting too close to the snow covered waterfront.

Investigators are basing the theory on how they found footage, from security cameras, of the boy entering the park but could not find footage of him leaving. They have also said they have not closed the door on the possibility the boy might have been abducted.

A Montreal police spokesperson said on Friday that investigators continued to work in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough and that the police force still has a mobile command post set up at Galeries Normandie that they are using as a base of operations. The spokesperson said decisions on how long the command post will remain at the shopping centre will be done on a day-to-day basis.
