The Winnipeg Police Service is not laying charges following an investigation into an alleged attempted child abduction last week.
Officers were called to the 1700 block of Brebeuf Place on Jan. 30 after receiving a report that two girls were nearly abducted. According to police, the girls were walking to school in the area when a man followed them and grabbed one of their hands. An adult in the area witnessed the incident and intervened, causing the man to run away.
A day later, police identified the accused man and gathered additional details.
“It was determined that although this behavior was concerning, it is not believed to be an attempted child abduction,” police said in a news release, adding no charges have been laid.
Police said caregivers should educate their children about safety strategies and reporting suspicious behavior to a trusted adult.
