A Nanaimo woman who went missing last week has been found dead.
According to a Nanaimo RCMP press release, shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, the body of a deceased adult woman was recovered from the Millstone River in Bowen Park. From tattoos noted on the body, the deceased was identified as 48-year old Nancy Gagne, who had been reported missing on Feb. 1.
Nanaimo RCMP, Nanaimo Fire Rescue and Nanaimo Search and Rescue were called to the scene, with NSAR taking the lead on the recovery of the body from the river.
B.C. Coroners Service also attended and will continue with their investigation.

The Nanaimo RCMP and Nanaimo Search and Rescue (NSAR) are currently searching for 48-year-old Nancy Gagne, who was last seen at approximately 6:30 AM on Thursday February 1, 2024. Based on evidence, search efforts are focusing on the area of the Millstone River from Bowen Road to the Nanaimo harbor. Involved in the search are volunteers from NSAR and RCMP officers including West Coast Marine Services. NSAR searched until approximately midnight on February 1st and and resumed searching at daybreak on February 2nd.
Gagne was last seen wearing multi-colored pajamas. She is a Caucasian woman, 5 ft. 7 inches, 150 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. The picture provided is recent. If anyone has information on the whereabouts of Nancy Gagne, please call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
