The Columbia Valley RCMP and Search and Rescue are actively searching the Bugaboo Creek and Upper Bugaboo Falls area this morning in an effort to locate an overdue paddler.
Peter Jolles, 46, of Virginia, set out yesterday, June 19, on a solo kayaking trip down Bugaboo Creek and failed to appear at his designated pick-up location. When he didn’t arrive as expected, he was reported missing to police.
Columbia Valley RCMP and Search and Rescue flooded the area last night and located Jolles’ green inflatable kayak however he was not located. The search has resumed this morning.
“Columbia Valley RCMP is asking pedestrians to avoid the search area, namely the banks around the Lower Bugaboo Falls area and Bugaboo Creek, to allow search teams to work freely,” states Sgt. Darren Kakuno, Columbia Valley RCMP Detachment Commander.
Peter was last seen wearing a black dry suit, grey life jacket and white helmet. He is described as a Caucasian man, standing 6’5, weighing 180 lbs, with a fit physique and shoulder length wavy hair.
If you have information about Peter’s whereabouts, you are asked to contact the Columbia Valley RCMP at 1-250-342-9292 and cite file 2022-1463.
