Sad update, Doreen has been located deceased. Our thought go out to her family and friends. https://missingpeople.ca/sad-update-missing-penticton-senior-found-deceased-no-criminality-suspected/

A missing 89-year-old woman’s car was found on Greyback Mountain Road in Penticton, but she wasn’t inside.

Penticton RCMP told the public on Saturday, Jan. 28, Doreen Abbott was reported missing. Her car was found stuck in snow at some time the same day, according to a news release.

“An extensive search of the area were her vehicle was located has continued over the past three days, carried out by both the RCMP and Search and Rescue,” Penticton RCMP spokesperson Const. James Grandy said in the release.

She was expected a friend’s house on Jan. 27, but she didn’t arrive that night.

She’s described as 5’3″ and 120 lb. with a thin build. She has white and grey hair, wears glasses and normally walks with a cane.

At the time of her disappearance, police believe she was wearing a dark green and blue three-quarter length wool cat, turquoise sweatpants and black slip-on shoes.

Police are reaching out to residents of Upper and Lower Bench Roads, Naramata Road and other neighbourhoods near her vehicle.

“We’re asking those residents who may have either dashcam or home surveillance to check to see if they happened to capture Abbott’s vehicle on Jan. 27, between the hours of 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.,” Grandy said.

An RCMP plane, police dogs and search and rescue crews are “actively continuing a systematic and thorough search,” according to Grandy.

“Due to the immediate area consisting of hazardous terrain, and with the weather turning very cold, it’s not advisable for the general public to conduct their own search,” Grandy said.
