The Regina Police Service has laid charges in connection with a missing person case that dates back to 1997. The accused in this case, a 78 year-old Regina area male, has also been charged in connection with a more recent case of uttering threats.

The disappearance of then-53-year-old Patrick Cyril THAUBERGER was reported to Regina Police on September 16, 1997, although he was reportedly last seen on September 3, 1997. A missing person investigation was opened and a photo and information about Patrick Cyril THAUBERGER was posted to the Regina Police Service website and, eventually the SACP Long-Term Missing Persons webpages.

As part of this 23-year disappearance/missing person/cold case police investigation, multiple investigational strategies were undertaken. On Sunday, November 29, 2020, Regina Police Service members arrested and charged a 78 year-old Regina male with the murder of Patrick THAUBERGER, as well as uttering threats to an adult female, between 1997 and 2014. The family of Patrick THAUBERGER has been notified of his death.

Seventy-eight year-old Joseph George THAUBERGER, of Regina, is facing charges of:

First-Degree Murder, Section 235(1) CC;
Offer an Indignity to a Dead Human Body, Section 182(b) CC; and
Uttering Threats, Section 264.1(1)(a) CC.

The accused will make his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, November 30, 2020.
