🚨 Homicide Investigation: Missing Nanaimo Woman Sherry Shelley, 65, Found Dead in November Car Fire – RCMP Seeks Video Evidence
Nanaimo RCMP have confirmed the death of Sherry Shelley, a 65-year-old woman from Nanaimo, as a homicide following her discovery in a vehicle fire last month. File 2025-36216.
Shelley was last seen on November 13, 2025 near Walmart in north Nanaimo, texting family that evening. Early November 14, officers responded to a car fire in a wooded area off College Drive near Highway 19, where her body was found inside the burned vehicle. Initially described as “highly suspicious,” the Serious Crime Unit is now investigating as homicide, working to bring justice to her family.
Shelley, a longtime downtown Nanaimo resident known for her compassion—often keeping clothing and blankets in her car to help those experiencing homelessness—was likely driving her white 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan (BC plate WN7 01L) overnight between Nov. 13 and 14. Some belongings were later found scattered along Old Logging Road in Lantzville. Forensic teams searched a property at College Drive and Nanaimo Parkway, though details on its connection remain undisclosed.
Investigators are appealing for dashcam or surveillance footage showing the Tiguan or unusual activity along these routes from 11 p.m. Nov. 13 to 3 a.m. Nov. 14:

- From Doumont area to College Drive via Jingle Pot Road
- From Harwood Drive in Lantzville, along Old Logging Road to Vipond Road
