The Saint John Police are investigating after human skeletal remains were located in a heavily wooded area between Lakewood Heights and Golden Grove Road.

It is reported that:

On Friday, August 12, 2022, at approximately 6:09 p.m., the Saint John Police responded to the Lakewood Heights area after a hiker had located what he believed to be human skeletal remains.

The hiker had been walking in a densely wooded area when he made the discovery.

He marked the location and called the police.

The Forensic Identification Services attended the scene and confirmed the remains were human. A thorough search of the site was conducted in consultation with a forensic anthropologist.

The scene was secured by police until a more extensive grid search of the larger area could be conducted in cooperation with trained personnel from River Valley and York Sunbury Ground Search and Rescue teams.

The Saint John Police are asking the public to avoid this area in order to allow trained personnel to complete their search efforts and avoid contaminating the area. This includes any ATV trails in this area.

Efforts to identify the human remains are currently underway.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Saint John Police Force at 1-506-648-3333, or if you wish to remain anonymous, contact Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or 1-800-222-T.I.P.S.
