The family of a man who went missing after a house party in Sun Peaks is asking for any new leads.
In a news release, Ryan Shtuka’s family says they are renewing a call for volunteers and tips to help find the missing 20-year-old. Shtuka was last seen leaving a home on Burfield Drive in Sun Peaks in the early morning hours of Feb. 17. He was believed to be walking a short distance home, but never showed up for work later that day and hasn’t been seen since.
“We are so thankful for those stepping in to volunteer with us in the search for Ryan. Many of our friends have travelled from Alberta, and many others have joined in from the Sun Peaks area. This is a tight-knit community that really cares about the people who live here,” Shtuka’s mother Heather Shtuka says in the release.
Volunteers are still needed to help continue the ground search in Sun Peaks and surrounding areas, and to canvas the area with flyers and ribbons, the release states.
Anyone who wants to volunteer is asked to check out the Missing Ryan Shtuka Facebook page for more details, and you’re reminded to wear proper winter clothing and boots.
According to the release, the Alberta chapter of the Canadian Search and Disaster Dogs Association has agreed to help search for Shtuka. They arrived today and will begin working tomorrow through Friday. Volunteers are not needed for a ground search these days.
The family is offering a $5,000 reward for any information leading to his whereabouts.
Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says police and search and rescue are done the physical search of the area, unless a tip comes in indicating a different area needs to be searched.
When the snow melts, Shelkie says, there will be another search in the village unless a tip comes in.
If you have any information on Shtuka’s whereabouts after his last known location, call Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
