Carmanville RCMP is investigating a report received of an attempted child abduction that occurred on Thursday evening in Carmanville.
Shortly before 11:00 p.m. last night, police received the report. At approximately 10:00 p.m., while walking home, a teenaged youth was approached by a man driving a light grey van on Noggin Cove Road. The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle spoke to the youth, demanding that she get into the vehicle. The youth declined and the driver repeated himself two more times. The youth ran off to her nearby residence and reported the incident to a parent. Numerous patrols were conducted but the vehicle was not located.
The man is described as being an older individual of a larger build. He was wearing a ball cap and had a long brown beard.
The vehicle is described as being noisy and possibly an older model. It is light grey in color and appeared to be freshly painted.
The investigation is continuing. RCMP NL encourages parents to talk to their children about what to do in a situation such as this.
