A 37-year-old Brandon man has been charged in connection with an Amber Alert in northwestern Ontario.
Ontario Provincial Police issued an the alert at 3 a.m. Sunday after being called to a home in the Rainy River District over a report of a domestic dispute. After discovering a man had fled in a car with a two-year-old girl, they issued the alert. Police cancelled it around 8 a.m. when the man and child were found. The girl was in good health.
The man faces a number of criminal charges, including three counts of assault, one count of choking in order to overcome resistance, one count of mischief, one count of taking a car without consent, and one count of driving while impaired. He also faces charges under the Highway Traffic Act, including failure to properly wear a seatbelt.
The man, who is in custody, is expected to appear in court Monday via teleconference.
