Police in Surrey, B.C., say they arrested a 28-year-old man, ending their search after the “safe recovery” of a missing two-month-old baby.

Surrey RCMP cancelled their public Amber Alert slightly more than an hour after it was issued at 12:30 p.m. PT Saturday.

“Police immediately began receiving tips, and that is what led us to being able to quickly and safely locate the infant,” said police spokesperson Cpl. Vanessa Munn in a release. “The Amber Alert worked exactly how it was designed to work.”

The RCMP statement said officers had spoken with the suspect in Surrey in the morning, who had been in a vehicle with the infant before fleeing the area. Later that morning, officers saw the vehicle again before it fled a second time.

“Police obtained further information which (led) them to believe that the infant was in imminent danger,” police said of the reason they issued a public alert, including the names and descriptions of a girl and a suspect, along with information on the suspect’s vehicle.

He was arrested and remains in custody, police said.
