Okanagan police dog hanging up his harness and retiring after 7 years of service

Police dog Hawkes is calling it a career.

Hawkes was born in Innisfail, Alta. on Sept. 15, 2015, and was trained at the Innisfail Police Dog Training Centre.

Once he was ready to join the professional ranks, he was paired with his “fur-ever handler,” Cpl. Kyle, and went on to have an impressive career.

Hawkes served communities in the Peace and Okanagan regions, finding many missing people, locating evidence, and tracking and aiding in the apprehension of numerous dangerous suspects.

“Hawkes, thank you for your dedicated service and for always being ready when called on to ensure the safety of your handler, other officers and the public over the past seven years,” said a statement from the North Okanagan RCMP.

“We hope you enjoy a comfortable and much deserved retirement with your family!”

And from all of us, thank you for your service Hawkes! Enjoy your well-earned retirement.
