The Prince Edward Island RCMP is investigating the discovery of human remains near Skinners Pond, PEI.

On September 29, 2022, at approximately 11:30 a.m., members of the West Prince RCMP detachment responded to a report that human remains had been found in the water near Skinners Pond.

A member of the Prince Edward Island’s Coroner’s office attended the scene and is assisting with the ongoing investigation. An autopsy has been ordered to positively identify the remains, and to confirm the cause of death.

The PEI RCMP is in contact with the New Brunswick RCMP to investigate whether there may be any connection to an incident near Pointe-Sapin, N.B., last month, where a 15-year-old boy was lost at sea from a fishing vessel.

“Again, we have not been able to positively identify the remains yet, but police have been in contact with the family of the missing boy to inform them of the discovery,” says Cpl. Travis Gallant of the Prince District RCMP. “We will continue to share more information as it becomes available.”

The investigation is ongoing.
