RCMP in Nanaimo say local search and rescue crews are out scouring an area in Cedar on Sunday in hopes of finding a missing 68-year-old man.
Nanaimo Search and Rescue (NSAR) has initiated a ground search of the Cable Bay area in Cedar, south of Nanaimo, in hopes of finding Gerald Rupp, who has not been seen or heard from since around 3 p.m. Friday, March 7, according to RCMP.
“We’ve been out since the night time looking around the area, knocking on doors, checking green spaces. Checking around the shoreline to find any signs of Gerry,” said Dave Stewart, NSAR search manager.
Around 3 p.m. Friday, Rupp told a family member that he was not feeling well and would take a nap. Later, when his brother-in-law went to check on him, he could not be found.
Police were notified of Rupp’s disappearance on Friday evening, prompting a missing person investigation. They say his keys, wallet and phone have been accounted for.
The missing man is described as Caucasian, standing 6’2″ tall and weighing 245 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes, and the photo of him provided by police is recent.
