Devon Sinclair Marsman’s circle of friends was wider than his mom suspected before the small Halifax teen went missing a year ago.
She knew he smoked pot and wasn’t taking part in his classes at Citadel High School just before Christmas of 2021. But Theresa Gray said she saw no warning signs that her youngest child was hanging out with “shady” people nearly a decade his senior.
“I honestly had no idea,” Gray said Saturday.
Diagnosed with dyslexia in Grade 9, Devon struggled in school. The teen should have been in Grade 11 when he vanished, but his mom said he had stopped going to classes.
“He would stay up all night long,” she said. “He’d watch movies and then he’d sleep most of the day. There were days when Devon didn’t even go out of the house.”
If he’s still alive, Devon turned 17 last October.
Gray is sure her son didn’t kill himself.
“Definitely not,” she said. “He wasn’t that type of a kid.”
Gray often sees her missing son in her dreams.
“Sometimes I wake up and it feels like he’s in my room,” she said.
The last time she saw her son in the flesh was the night of Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2022.
“That Thursday morning, I had to go to work, and when I went to work, Devon was still in bed sleeping,” she said. “And then when I got home, Devon wasn’t there.”
