The body of 3-year-old Kaden Young has been found, two months after he was swept into the Grand River near Waldemar, his mother has confirmed.

On Saturday around 3 p.m. a fisherman spotted a body in the river near Orangeville, Ont. and called the Ontario Provincial Police. Multiple police units and a forensic squad worked to remove the body from the water.

Const. Paul Nancekivell told the Star he was hesitant on releasing the identity until police knew for sure but on Sunday morning Michelle Hanson, Young’s mother, posted to a Facebook group thanking the community for their support.

“We are wanting to thank everyone that has helped in the efforts to bring our Son Kaden home. It has been a long extremely draining two months of searching and now has finally come to an end,” said the post.

Hanson said funeral arrangements are now being finalized.

On Feb. 21 Hanson was driving with Young when she accidentally missed a road-closure sign and her minivan was swept off the washed-out road and into the fast-moving river during a flood. She managed to free herself and Young from the vehicle, but the water wrenched the boy from her arms.

Family members said Hanson hadn’t seen the road-closure sign due to dark and foggy conditions. It was about 1 a.m. when the vehicle hit the water.

Mother of Kaden Young confirms in Facebook post that body found Saturday in Grand River near Orangeville is that of her missing three year old son.

Ontario Provincial Police say a fisherman has found the body of a child in the Grand River, 13 kilometres downstream from where a three-year-old boy went missing during a flood in February.

Police say the fisherman found the body at around 3 p.m. today near Orangeville, Ont., and it is being transported to a coroner’s office to be identified.

Multiple police units and a forensic squad helped remove the body from the river, and they remain on the scene.

On February 21st, three-year-old Kaden Young was swept out of his mother’s arms when their vehicle entered the Grand River during a flood.

Police, along with hundreds of people from the community, have been searching the river daily ever since.

OPP say they’ll release information about the deceased’s identity as soon as the coroner’s office completes its examination.
